BdREN Meets New ICT Director of Dhaka University to Strengthen Collaboration

On December 15, 2024, a team from the Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN), led by Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Tawrit, held a welcome meeting with Professor Dr. Mosaddek Hossain Kamal, the newly appointed ICT Director of Dhaka University (DU). The meeting, held at the Professor's office, was also attended by BdREN's Chief Technical Officer Ekhlas Uddin Ahmed and Manager of Data and Transmission Network Md. Ariful Islam.

The meeting centered on fostering greater cooperation between Dhaka University, the largest and most prestigious university in the country, and BdREN, the leading digitalization facilitator for education and research in Bangladesh. Highlighting BdREN's vision, encapsulated in its tagline "Researchers' Heaven", CEO Mohammad Tawrit reaffirmed BdREN's commitment to providing state-of-the-art digital facilities to DU's research sector under the guidance and support of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Professor Dr. Mosaddek Hossain Kamal, a distinguished educationist and ICT expert, expressed his enthusiasm for transforming Dhaka University into a thriving hub for advanced research. He acknowledged BdREN's role in digitalizing Bangladesh's education landscape and assured his full support in leveraging BdREN's services to modernize DU's academic and research infrastructure.

The discussions began with an evaluation of DU's internet bandwidth usage and its subscription package with BdREN, along with the state of DU's existing network infrastructure. The conversation then expanded to cover a wide range of BdREN services and initiatives, including High-Performance Computing (HPC), cloud services, local data center facilities, eduroam, Learning Management System (LMS), University Management System (UMS), Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), federated access to journals and eBooks, certificate verification services, Zoom, and consultancy.

Professor Mosaddek, with his vast international experience, expressed interest in playing a consulting role to ensure the successful implementation of BdREN's projects, not just for Dhaka University but also for broader initiatives that align with BdREN's mission. His insights and expertise are expected to further strengthen the synergy between DU, BdREN, and UGC in achieving digital transformation goals.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, marked by mutual enthusiasm, optimism, and a shared vision for the future. Both parties expressed confidence in their collaboration's potential to advance research capabilities, technological innovation, and digital infrastructure for the benefit of Dhaka University and the broader academic community in Bangladesh.
