Event Title: Workshop on Eduroam for NRENs Campus Network (WENCN)
When: 21~24 October, 2022
Where: Bangladesh Development Society (BDS) Conference Hall, Barishal, Bangladesh
Organizer: Department of Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT) in association with Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN), Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU)
Detailed information about the event: At present, Eduroam service is emerging for the users of universities. Without Eduroam services, the users (faculty, researchers, students, and staffs) of the universities will be bothered regarding their research, education and academic activities because Eduroam provides single campus feelings for the users. So, it is very important to enhance the skill of network personnel about Eduroam to ensure the hassle free internet service for the users. The target of the “Capacity Development for Implementing Eduroam in NRENs (CDIEN)” project is to train the network personnel of active campus networks where currently the users are enjoying WLAN internet services. The WENCN workshop under CDIEN project is going to be organized into blended mode (onsite and virtual).
Instructor and local participants will attend physically and interested participants from 9 Asi@Connect beneficiary countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Thailand) can join remotely through video conferencing. The workshop’s aims is to train the 42 onsite local participants and interested virtual participants (Assistant Network Engineer/Network Engineer/ Faculty members) who are engaged for the user authentication service, WLAN service, network troubleshooting of campus network. Both onsite and virtual participants will be facilitated the hands-on activities as maximum as possible. This activity utilized the distance learning platform (BdREN zoom service) from a previous Asi@Connect project “fDLuDCf”, implemented by BdREN, and deployed local zoom service in BdREN data center. Through the achieved knowledge about WLAN network design, identity management and user authentication server configuration and management as well as its operation, the participants will ensure quality Eduroam service for their campus which will increase the utilization of BdREN/NREN services (Bandwidth, cloud, UDL etc.,) and ultimately increase the TEIN network utilization. The monitoring team will coordinate trainees, instructors, training sessions, food and accommodation. The organizing team along with technical staff also monitors and coordinates hands-on materials, virtual sessions, and support to remote participants. For opening session, the Chief Executive Officer of BdREN Mohammad Tawrit and Managing Director of Teletalk Bangladesh Ltd A. K. M. Habibur Rahman will present as Special-Guests and the honorable vice-chancellor of PSTU Dr. Swadesh Chandra Samanta will adorn as Chief-Guest. The 4-day long training course will include all the major topics of Eduroam configuration and its operation. The participants will learn practically in hands-on session. The training program will be followed by an Evaluation program to choose the successful candidates who will be awarded with the certificate.
