Q: Did you face any technical difficulty during or after implementation of the service? Please describe.

Answer:

1. After implementing Dual-Homing (Two ISP connections) in CU on 13-14 August 2017 by BdREN people, SSH is not working in the web server.

2. CU does not have credential for primary DNS server hosted at BdREN, UGC, Dhaka. In other words, CU needs CPanel access to DNS1 at BdREN.

3. Secondary DNS (DNS2) at ICT Center, IT Building, CU is not functional. CU needs to have a fresh DNS2.

4. Due to huge power outage, UPS-battery crisis, the web server is down for large amount of time. Need to host a web server at BdREN.

5. BdREN technical people implemented the dual-homing but no documentation was provided to CU. The implemented IP (real IP bought from APNIC for CU) plan is also absent to CU. CU can not assign any IP for new service(s).

6. Because, of documentation lack (mentioned in number 5), CU can not go for any configuration change. There is severe necessity to rearrange the CU buildings between the two ISPs. Some building are getting Internet speed and some buildings are getting slow Internet.

7. Power problem mentioned in number 4. The BdREN generator in CU is programmed to start after 1 hour. It may be fine for BdREN Data center. But, CU NOC/data center can not survive up to 1 hour. Therefore, The generator program timing may be reduced.

8. The DHCP server/device is causing problem. For example, when the DHCP server is providing IP (Dynamic IP in a computer), then there is Internet problem. But when, a static IP address of that specific VLAN is set to the computer, then, Internet is working fine.

9. For the BGP configuration, CU buildings are divided into two. Some buildings are listed under BdREN and Some are listed under BTCL. A few websites were not working from the buildings listed under BdREN. For example cu.middaydreamz.com, etc. But, those websites were working from the buildings listed under BTCL. This issue is resolved by BdREN a few days back.

Q: How do you think BdREN can improve the quality of service it provides?

Answer:

1. Adopting State of the art technology
2. Training for concerned
3. Good inter-personal communication
4. Transparency
5. Well plan
6. Improving infrastructure

Q: Do you have any other comments, questions or concerns?

Answer:

1. Workshops are needed for IPv6, Monitoring, security

2. I can not see any University who has got an acceptable use policy that can be a guideline for CU.

3. The budget to implement the CU campus network was extremely low compared to other Universities facilitated by BdREN.

4. There was an agreement between CU and BdREN on 16 September 2012. But a copy of that is in the record of CU.

5. CU is suffering for the absence of layout map of the campus network optical fiber. As a result, utility service providers (Electrical, water and gas suppliers) and road constructors are cutting off or damaging the optical fiber.

6. Due of shortcoming of network management or monitoring, CU ICT Center has no knowledge about any network interruption occurred until somebody called.

7. There is no authentication for wireless or Wi-Fi in CU. Wi-Fi is completely open for all. Therefore, Internet over Wi-fi is being the cause of many crisis.

8. Web filtering is demanded from the CU authority. But, web filtering is still absent in CU.

8. A few applications are seeking VPN connection(s). But, configuring VPN is yet out of experience of CU.

9. CU has bought 1024 real IP addresses from APNIC. But effective use and management of IP addresses are not there.

10. Due to cutting off optical fiber in many places many times, the fiber is degrading. dB loss is apparent.

11. CU has electrical earthing problem in many buildings. Network equipments around those buildings are suffering huge.

12. Thundering (Lightning) is causing damage of many network devices.

13. There have been good amount of overhead UTP cable connections, specially in residential area (individual sponteneous effort). These are cause to attract lightning. And rain water is entering into network devices through these overhead UTP cables.

14. It is quite hard to maintain the virtual class room.

15. A trend in CU is to set up their own server(s) in offices and departments. Accounts, Library, etc already have own servers for applications. I am afraid, the central ICT Center is in inferior position compared to other(s).

Q: Did you face any technical difficulty during or after implementation of the service? Please describe.

Answer: Right now we are taking only internet service from BdREN and till now we are satisfied with the service. But very rare we get link drop due to power failure at different transmission node.

Q: How do you think BdREN can improve the quality of service it provides?

Answer: By strengthening their man power and NOC monitoring services.

Q: Do you have any other comments, questions or concerns?

Answer: Currently BdREN providing better service compare to other similar 'Service Provider' at low cost. Our suggestion, the service charge may be reduced to some extent for consuming more bandwidth at the same cost.

Q: Did you face any technical difficulty during or after implementation of the service? Please describe.

Answer: Initially faced some difficulties (some of them could be avoided handling by an experienced engineer/technician) but were solved eventually anyway.

Q: How do you think BdREN can improve the quality of service it provides?

Answer: Overall good but need more experienced personnel specially in the web hosting category.

Q: Do you have any other comments, questions or concerns?

Answer: All web hosting, email hosting etc services can be packaged and it takes more steps, calls etc to transitioning a service than average 3rd parties. Can be improve here a lot. The quality of the core service like up time, hardware, system responsiveness etc are very good. Nothing to complain.
